Kurt Vonnegut lecture entitled "How to Get a Job Like Mine" recorded live at Wichita State University on October 26, 1984 at 8:00 p.m. in The Miller Concert Hall on campus. Vonnegut spoke to a sell-out crowd that not only filled the auditorium, but the stage surrounding him, and then also filling an overflow viewing room where attendees watched the lecture on a closed circuit television feed. This is a second generation dub from the Wichita Public Radio station KMUW broadcast soundboard recording master produced for later broadcast. This version is of the complete performance and is 18 minutes longer then the recording in the Wichita State University archives.

Vonnegut at Wichita State — more details, please
I’m a Vonnegut archivist and bibliographer. Can you please provide additional details about this recording, such as the exact date of Vonnegut’s lecture, as well as the radio station or radio network which broadcast it, and date of the broadcast?
I have reason to suspect that the year of this lecture was not 1986, but 1984. The first evidence of this is in the recording itself: Vonnegut refers to his age within the first few minutes of his speech as 62 (he was born in 1922, and turned 64 in 1986).
Also, the Wichita State University Library Special Collections Department holds a cassette recording of what is almost certainly the same lecture (though apparently an edited recording of it), for which there is an online record here:
This record gives the year as 1984, and if you click on the link for Staff View at the right side of the of the page above, some additional information is revealed, including “Lecture taped October 26, 1984”.
I suspect that the Wichita State Library recording is most likely an edited version of Vonnegut’s speech because as it described on their catalog record page as being a 60 minute cassette, while your recording totals about 78 minutes.
